Toshiba Satellite C655-S5514 Great little rig! Initialized and went through Win 7 startup with all the normal options and settings, jumped right in to wireless A-OK, registration, Norton, & Microsoft Starter. Unless you’re a major presentation-constructor type, the included MS Starter works great, and has most all of the features for Word and Excel, more than plenty for my M-I-L. 
Battery life a little over 4 hours, (average for a new 6-cell,) and the numeric keypad in a 15.6″ format is nice for the “number-crunchers.”
Bought her a wireless mouse to solve the touch-pad aggravation many write of, but it’s about like average and can be adjusted for sensitivity. Keyboard action is excellent, screen display is FAN-TASTIC, the case design doesn’t “collect” fingerprints, and it DOES NOT get hot. This processor is FAST! (2.20GHz) and considering this price break with the 640 GB hard drive, this model is a very good buy. If my current laptop ever goes down, I’m buying a Toshiba like this!
I helped her set it all up and it’s a SNAP! Lightweight, (she “packed it right up” into the shoulder bag,) fast, great speakers, good-looking, everything you’d want to give your mother-in-law, or anyone else.
